My Z is clean and for the most part, stock. But folks who actually buy Zs tend to be a special breed, and based on my brief time on a Z forum I'm not sure that's a good thing. Plus I know myself... and I would hate to let me test drive my car, if that makes sense. Only problem is it's got way high miles and a dealership would ream me on trade in. I already bought a Civic and just need to sell the Z for home down payment money. It's a nice clean well maintained car too; I'm the second owner and the first owner had it for like 10 years and really maintained it well. I'm just kind of over it. Plus if I need my thrills I have this....

Kinja'd!!!

Anyone want a clean stock(ish) Z in NC?

Yes with a Morimoto Mini D2S 3.0 projector retrofitted inside. That might be the topic of another entry but I think I will be selling this bike after this season is over (if it ever gets started). I want more power and SV1000s are cheap and nice....

Closing in on 190K. It runs phenomenally though. Still pulls like a freight train and makes me shake my head in disbelief if I go for a long time without driving it and come back to it. Lot of maintenance done too. Had the clutch hydraulics bled and I upgraded to 06 brakes which work great. Upgraded to 06 headlights and put in a headunit with aux in.

You could try your luck on CL?

Does a bear shit in the woods? :)

I checked out a MKV GTI 5 door with the DSG. The transmission was awesome. Nicer than the F1 box in the F430 for sure, but just not as satisfying as going old school

Some bears do other shit in enclosures.

you drove a F430?

Can't that be fixed? I have been thinking about the SV650, but I don't know if the little bit of power it has over the Ninja is enough.

Then again, you know what... whenever I go for a long time without riding the Ninja I get to thinking it's so slow, but when I get on it again, without fail I'm like "man this thing is a rocket". It is really quick from like 0-50 MPH, but with the headlight the aero sucks so it's kind of a dog from like 70 and up. I am thinking an SV650S could feel a good bit faster thanks to the fairing alone and better top end. Once it's warm I will give some a try. Also thinking about old Speed Triples and maybe even some Z1000s though I'm not crazy about 4 banger bikes.

Yea in Italy on my honeymoon. It was a little disappointing. Really unrefined. F1 box was clunky and the suspension felt like wood. Engine note was like a DOHC VTEC Honda which was OK but not worth $200K IMO. I drove the 458 at a track day and it was so much better. Fixed everything they got wrong about the F430

With that mileage you're probably better off just keeping it till it's used up and then trading it in.

i have a SV650S ATM. i'm thinking about upgrading to a Z1000. never had a 4 banger bike (started on a buell, rode a bmw F800R for a ffew months, and now SV)

my friend also has a ninja 650 like yours (but fully faired)

the SV off the line is a MUCH faster bike. the ninja starts to reel it in once you get past 100 mph,

between the 2, we BOTH agree the SV is a much nicer and sport oriented bike. but it does need suspension work (too soft for ANYONE) stock.

I swapped my Grom headlight for a dual LED bar and one of the guys at work put my old stock light assembly on his 919.

I dont plan on doing much above 100 MPH so the SV may hold the advantage. I just know the SV is more powerful than the Ninja by an appreciable amount:

Kinja'd!!!

How appreciable though is the question.

almost none at all. they are pretty similar in terms of accel. the SV just moves off the line faster. and sounds a LOT bettter (V-twin VS I2. v wins every day)

and if you get a naked, you WILL have some people thinking its a ducati.

Does this have a CD009 transmission? If I remember correctly, the early Z's had transmission issues where the syncros were weak or something...

Im sure you can find a nice owner. or just do the jalop thing and get rid of your civic and keep the Z :)

Yea, the sound of the Ninja, especially on the highway, is less than great. I do need more highway oomph, but I'm hoping a fairing would help. Honestly though I have been riding the Ninja for 3 years and I just want more. I could trade a little nimbleness for grunt. I drive a 350Z after all haha.

Plus I feel like the SV1000 could be decent with suspension work. I'll have to ride one and see.

My transmission has been rock solid. Only problem is the shifter/clutch are hard as hell to shift when it's cold. I haven't heard of that issue.
